“I started at Boehringer as a temp in the Purchasing Department. My previous work history is in sales and I wanted to try something new. I knew the minute I got here that I would enjoy it. I had many transferable skills I could use. I had never worked for a large company before and I found the atmosphere very friendly. After temping for a while I was made a permanent member of staff.
My customers are my internal colleagues in the Manufacturing Pharma Division and I work with them to ensure the company obtains the best quality and services from suppliers, within budget. The majority of my work involves working with cross functional teams where I often take on the role of project leader.
Boehringer is a good company to work for in terms of training. I have been on many different training courses such as Project Management, Contract Law, Negotiation and Presentation Skills. Boehringer also supported me in gaining my corporate membership to the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS), which took me two years to complete.
I have learnt an enormous amount since I have been here and there are numerous
opportunities if you are interested and show willing. I have recently been asked
to be a team member on a global team looking at Supplier and Risk Management.
This is an excellent opportunity for me to work with my counterparts from around
the world.
The benefits are also great, such as flexi time for most employees, a good pension
and bonus scheme. The company is very family orientated and this reflects in
the way they look after their staff. The working environment is really good too
and we even have a coffee shop on site!” |
