Group Leader PC and Web Development
"After graduating I really wanted a software development
job in a corporate company, as I wanted the opportunity to progress with
a company which had all the available resources to complement my ambitions.
As soon as I arrived I knew I’d made the right decision, as you
always have the chance to develop yourself further and the sky’s
the limit.
I’ve been very lucky as I started off as a graduate and now manage
a team of four. My role is to lead and manage the team in the planning
and development of integrated applications and technology, including:
Intranet, Portal, Extranet, E-commerce, Siebel, ERP and Business Intelligence,
all in support of the business and its customers within BIUK. This is
a great opportunity indicating that people can be promoted to a new
position within the company in a short period of the time.
It’s a great company and I really enjoy it here as I’ve
had some very good progression opportunities. I’m also involved
in our International Managers Development Programme, which gives me
the opportunity to work and develop in an international environment,
learning from colleagues across the world, and also working on a high
profile international project.
I enjoy the management of people. When I first arrived I was looking
for a technical job, but I soon realised that people management was
more my thing, as I really enjoy the interaction. I can see an excellent
career path for myself including the chance to work internationally
for a period if the time is right.
I genuinely believe that as it’s a family owned company, there
aren’t the same politics, as the company is running for itself,
not for a mass of unknown shareholders. This makes the working environment
a happy and relaxed place to work.”
