Senior Medical Advisor
Trained as a doctor in hospitals throughout London:
"As a medical adviser, I have responsibility for medical cover for the respiratory products. I work closely with the respiratory marketing team, helping to devise and shape the marketing materials for various respiratory products.
The role of the medical adviser is two-fold when it comes to marketing materials; firstly to ensure the medical accuracy and secondly to ensure the materials (whether advertisements, sales aids or other materials) conform to the requirements of the ABPI (Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry's) Code of Practice.
I also work closely with our Regulatory Affairs department to provide medical support for product licences. This can take many forms, including writing clinical reports or statements to support licence updates or changes to licences, or writing the medical sections of Periodic Safety Update Reports which are required every few years. These provide an overview of the safety of the product, taking into account any adverse events reported to the company and the number of patients who have been exposed to the product.
I also have some involvement with the clinical trials teams, helping to recruit new investigators, monitoring small 'investigator initiated studies' and occasionally writing the clinical trial report.
On the whole it really is quite an interesting and varied role, which draws on my medical training and allows me to interact with a number of different teams."
