The Community Spirit programme enables Boehringer Ingelheim employees to get involved in a way that suits them. There are a number of ways employees are able to support charity and community activities:
We have introduced a company Give As You Earn scheme (GAYE) so that our employees can give, tax-free, to their favourite charities straight from their pay packets
The charities stand to gain much more than through other methods of giving as Boehringer Ingelheim makes an additional contribution to each employee's donation.

Our employees are entitled to apply for up to two special paid leave days, or one 12-hour shift, per year to work with community initiatives. This enables individuals to spend time working with organisations in the community which are important to them.
In 2004, over 100 employees took advantage of this scheme. They spent time working on a variety of community projects including:
- gardening at a local school
- decorating a home for the disabled
- assisting at a local branch of Battersea Dogs Home
"The whole experience has lifted the morale and outlook of students and many now have a clearer vision for their futures - thank you for your part in making this, such a special event."
"We were absolutely thrilled at the amount of work you achieved, your professionalism and willingness to help others - please can you come again next year!"
