As part of the Community Spirit programme, our Community Partnership
scheme helps us to build good relationships with community groups.
Our employees live and work all round the UK, so this scheme captures activities in all areas of the country. As our UK head office is based in Bracknell, we have a role to play as a responsible member of the local community. For this reason we particularly focus on activities in this area.
We are promoting education by working in partnership with several schools and colleges across the UK. Being a pharmaceutical company, we have a particular interest in the sciences, and so we are always keen to support activities of this nature.
Through our education partnership we:
- provide speakers to support the curriculum
- provide mentoring, career talks and work experience
- assist students with literacy and numeracy skills
- donate spare furniture and equipment
- offer visits to our head office site

Each year charities are nominated for the Charity of the Year status. Employees are invited to vote for a charitable organisation and the successful candidate will be supported with fundraising activities throughout the year.
Boehringer Ingelheim employees have chosen Naomi House to be Charity of the Year 2008.

We are also building relationships with the wider community. As part of our commitment to charities in the Berkshire area, during 2003, 2004 and 2005 we donated £50,000 to the Berkshire Community Foundation. This has enabled us to provide assistance to the smaller initiatives which are of great value to the community.

Additionally, we donate equipment and furniture to charities and schools through "Commerce to Community", an organisation that recycles equipment and furniture from businesses for use in schools and charities.
"Commerce to Community is proud to have Boehringer Ingelheim as a member company. The organisation is an excellent example of what Commerce to Community is trying to achieve in the community."

Our Donations Committee is made up of volunteers from right across the company. The committee is responsible for considering applications for financial assistance. In 2004, we gave financial support to over 100 organisations, which were recommended by employees and community groups. Throughout 2005 we are continuing to encourage employees to put forward suggestions.
