Enterisol® Ileitis

Enterisol Ileitis also known as porcine proliferative enteropathy (PPE), is an endemic infectious disease of the intestinal tract in pigs. Infection occurs by oral/faecal transmission of the agent Lawsonia intracellularis and is found in all countries with intensive pig production.

A recent serological survey of 16,000 serum samples, taken from over 350 farms, showed that 90% of European pig farms are infected. This makes ileitis the most widely prevalent intestinal disease of pigs in Europe.

Clinically, the manifestation of ileitis can be acute or chronic. The acute form presents as bloody diarrhoea and death mainly in gilts and older finishing pigs between 3 and 12 months of age. In contrast, in the chronic form, onset occurs more gradually and symptoms last for up to several weeks. The chronic form is seen usually in growers and finishing pigs.

The most common manifestation of ileitis is the sub-clinical form which occurs without obvious symptoms such as diarrhoea or death. Reduced growth rates and an increase in feed conversion rates and body weight variation are characteristic signs of sub-clinical disease. The consequence is substantial economic loss. Effective control of ileitis results in higher growth rates and reduced bodyweight variability at slaughter. Sub-clinical ileitis in a pig herd may remain unnoticed even by the most experienced farmer.

Enterisol® Ileitis is a new live vaccine (launched October 2005) that is administered orally, usually via the drinking water. It produces immunity against Lawsonia intracellularis and as a result reduces the damage caused by clinical or sub-clinical ileitis.

Introduction of the vaccine in farms previously showing clinical signs of disease led to a reduction in deaths due to ileitis, improved homogeneity of growth and an absence of diarrhoea and intestinal lesions characteristic of L. intracellularis infection.

In farms showing serological evidence of infection in the absence of clinical signs, vaccinated pigs showed higher weight gain during the finishing period, reduced body weight variation at slaughter and lower price penalties at the slaughterhouse. Vaccination provided an increased gross margin of + €4,47 per pig.

Ingelvac® M.hyo

Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (M.hyo) is a widespread pathogen, found in swine herds throughout the world. The organism is associated with the development of mycoplasmal pneumonia, a bronchopneumonia that is clinically mild and characterised by a dry, persistent cough in its early stages. The disease leads to severe productivity losses by way of reduced live weight gain, poor food conversion rates and increased batch variability in the growing pigs.

Ingelvac® M.hyo is a single shot inactivated vaccine against Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae. It provides major innovation by the use of its unique and revolutionary adjuvant system, Impran(r). Impran is a highly stable water-in-oil emulsion, which forms an immunogenic complex capturing antigen in both the oil and water phases. Antigen is released from the stable emulsion in a two-stage process, effectively providing both initial and booster doses from a single administration of vaccine ensuring a prolonged immune stimulation. The Impran oil phase is a unique mixture of four biodegradable, non-mineral oils, and is completely metabolised in vivo.

Ingelvac M hyo therefore provides improved immune response compared to both its one and two shot competitors. It consistently generates productivity benefits as good as, if not better, than its two-shot competitor products.

Ingelvac® PRRS KV

Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), is now endemic in most areas of the UK. It is transmitted by the movement of the pigs, airborne transmission (up to two miles) or contaminated vehicles, equipment or clothing. Acute outbreaks of clinical disease are represented by increased abortions, weak and stillborn piglets, premature farrowings and generally reduced reproductive performance. In young growing pigs, PRRS is responsible for respiratory disease either alone or as part of the Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex (PRDC).

Ingelvac® PRRS KV (killed vaccine) is indicated for the control of Porcine and Respiratory Syndrome in breeding sows and gilts. Gilts should be vaccinated with Ingelvac PRRS KV during acclimatisation and before entering the pig herd. After their initial course, animals are boosted once during each pregnancy. Vaccinated animals show improved reproductive performance as shown by fewer early farrowings and stillbirths. In addition, vaccinated animals produce fewer infected piglets and pass on improved colostral immunity.

Metacam 20mgs/ml solution for Injection for cattle and pigs

Metacam Injection (2%) is a Non Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug (NSAID) licensed for the treatment of Metritis, Mastitis, Agalactiae syndrome (MMA) and lameness in pigs. It is a potent NSAID given as a single injection of 2.0mls/100kg bodyweight by the IM route. It can be repeated after 24 hours if considered clinically necessary.

Metacam injection is a potent anti-endotoxic, anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic and analgesic drug. It controls the pain associated with lameness and leads to the production of more piglets weaned per litter produced by sows affected with MMA.

Bisolvon® injection and powder is indicated as an aid to the treatment for respiratory disease where mucus is a complicating factor. Bisolvon leads to the production of less viscous mucous and increases the concentration of the antibiotics administered. Bisolvon is available in an injectable and oral formulation.

Monzaldon® is a uterine relaxant used as an aid to difficult farrowings in sows and gilts.
