Algorithm provides links for Parkinson's
The experts at the Whitehead Institute and Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created the algorithm, which brings together for the first time a comprehensive system of data that charts how cells respond to different stimuli.
It is hoped the process will provide researchers looking into the development of treatments for Parkinson's disease with a greater understanding of how different cells react and therefore help them to link up the responses of cells infected with Parkinson's disease to create a fuller picture of how the illness develops.
"This allows for a more complete understanding of cellular response and can reveal hidden components of the response that may be targeted by drugs," Esti Yeger-Lotem, who co-authored the article detailing the new algorithm.
Last week, research from Harvard University School of Public Health suggested a family history of melanoma could increase the risk of a person developing Parkinson's disease.
