Discontinuation announcement: Combivent® Metered Aerosol (20mcg ipratropium bromide monohydrate and 120mcg of salbutamol sulphate)
Discontinuation announcement
Combivent® Metered Aerosol (20mcg ipratropium bromide monohydrate and 120mcg of salbutamol sulphate)
Following consultation with the Department of Health and in accordance with the European Commission strategy for the phase-out of CFC containing products, Boehringer Ingelheim Ltd is providing early notification regarding the planned discontinuation of Combivent® Metered Aerosol during 2008.
Boehringer Ingelheim Ltd is investing substantial resources to develop CFC-free alternatives to its inhaled product range. However, a CFC-free alternative to Combivent® Metered Aerosol will not be available in time for Boehringer Ingelheim to comply with European CFC environmental legislation. Boehringer Ingelheim Ltd is taking this decision with great reluctance and the objective in informing you at this early stage is to minimise any disruption to you and your patients.
Boehringer Ingelheim Ltd emphasise that the discontinuation decision is driven solely by the restriction in the use of CFCs. It is in no way based on the safety profile, effectiveness or quality of the product itself. Boehringer Ingelheim Ltd also stresses that Combivent® UDVs® will continue to be available.
