BI team completes Great Northern Run for local hospice

A team from Bracknell-based pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim ran the Great Northern Run to raise money for Thames Valley Hospice in Windsor.

The team of 7 completed the 13.1 mile half marathon from Newcastle to South Shields on Sunday 16 September. They joined 45,000 other runners who were raising money for charity. The Boehringer Ingelheim team will donate proceeds from the run, hoped to be in the region of £3,000, to Thames Valley Hospice.

The Hospice is a charity which provides palliative care to terminally ill patients and support to their families. It is aiming to raise £1.5 million towards the costs of an extension to their existing facilities which will help them to meet ever-growing demand from the local community.

Dr Ian Desborough, marketing manager at BI said:

‘We decided to donate proceeds from the run to Thames Valley Hospice because Boehringer Ingelheim has a particular interest in the field of palliative care.

The work of the hospice makes a considerable difference to the lives of patients with terminal diseases and their families. It provides an environment in which these patients can remain pain free and face dying with dignity. We hope that our donation will help them in their very valuable work.’

The team from Boehringer Ingelheim who took part in the run are: Luke Bamber, Edward Cain, Ian Desborough, Margaret Findley, David Howes, Simon Raine and Matthew Stanton.
