Boehringer Ingelheim today announced the results of its worldwide environmental protection, safety and health policy for 2000. Results show a reduction in emissions, more efficient use of resources, increased recycling and a decline in the number of work-related accidents.
The report, Our planet – our responsibility, gives an account of the operating units’ activities worldwide with illustrations of particular initiatives that have been undertaken at local level.
Dr Hans-Jurgen Leuchs, Managing Director Operations at Boehringer Ingelheim said:

We consider environmental protection, safety and health as a part of our drive for operational excellence.’
Examples of initiatives that have been undertaken across the world include environmental improvements in Colombia where Boehringer Ingelheim was awarded first prize in a competition for the reduction of emissions supported by the United Nations Environment Programmes. In Japan a number of initiatives proved highly effective in saving energy and reducing waste resulting in a 77 per cent reduction in packaging waste volumes and 16 per cent increase in overall recycling rates.
